Medical And Cosmetic Dermatology For Skin Disorders

Botox Vs. Dysport

Bacterial vaginosis is the most common vaginal infection, so it’s no surprise that there are hundreds of different bacterial vaginosis remedies out there for you to try.

But having too many options is a problem in itself. You obviously want the one treatment that will give you the best results. But unfortunately different treatments work differently for different women, so it helps to know a handful of the best treatments that other women have tried and tested FOR you.

Another thing you ought to keep in mind is that one treatment alone usually just doesn’t cut it, especially if you have had bacterial vaginosis for a while. Your best bet is to use a combination of different bacterial vaginosis remedies, each remedy supplementing the other through a different mode of action.

So in this article I’ll be telling you about 3 different bacterial vaginosis remedies that you should be using together in COMBINATION. And this isn’t any old random combination, it’s one that REAL WOMEN have used time and time again with an excellent rate of success.

So here’s your list of…

3 Powerful Bacterial Vaginosis Remedies

BV Remedy #1: Hydrogen Peroxide

This is a very powerful treatment indeed. Hydrogen peroxide is a substance that is naturally present inside every healthy vagina. Good bacteria inside your vagina naturally produce hydrogen peroxide in order to kill off the bad bacteria. For this reason, hydrogen peroxide is one of the few bactericidal remedies that kills ONLY the bad bacteria and leaves the good ones alone. That’s why hydrogen peroxide is so effective. Here’s how to use it.

Take 1/4 cup (60 ml) of 3% hydrogen peroxide and mix it with 1/4 cup of water (preferably distilled). Apply as a douche 1 to 2 times per day, for 3 days (maximum 5 days). This gives most women IMMEDIATE relief from the bad smells and excess vaginal discharge.

As effective as hydrogen peroxide is in the immediate sense, its effects don’t last very long for most women, not when you use it on its own. That’s where the folic acid and acidophilus comes in.

BV Remedy #2: Acidophilus

One strain of good bacteria inside your vagina is called lactobacillus acidophilus. You can take acidophilus tablets to increase the number of good bacteria inside your vagina. If you don’t like tablets, you can also take natural unpasteurized yogurts that contain live strains of acidophilus bacteria.

Once the hydrogen peroxide has killed off the bad bacteria, you can take acidophilus to help replenish the colony of good bacteria inside your vagina. These good bacteria then release more hydrogen peroxide naturally. They also release other chemicals such as lactic acid, which kill off more of the bad bacteria and prevent them from growing back.

Acidophilus doesn’t work very well on its own, because it isn’t very good at killing off the overgrown bad bacteria that you get in bacterial vaginosis. But when used in combination with hydrogen peroxide, its effects have been shown to be extremely powerful.

Acidophilus tablets and yogurts can be used both orally and vaginally. Studies have shown the oral route to provide longer lasting results, whereas the vaginal route produces more immediate results.

The Oral Route…

Take 2-3 acidophilus pills orally for at least 1 month. Or take 150ml natural unpasteurized yogurt containing live acidophilus twice daily for at least 1 month.

The Vaginal Route…

Insert one vaginal acidophilus suppository AFTER each hydrogen peroxide douche. Or apply unpasteurized yogurt containing live acidophilus bacteria liberally inside your vagina using an applicator or spoon. Do this at night AFTER your hydrogen peroxide douche, and be sure to wear a non-deodorized pad to avoid soiling your underwear. The vaginal route is to be used for no longer than 7 consecutive days.

BV Remedy #3: Folic Acid

Folic acid is the icing on the cake here. It uses a whole different approach and is thought to help cure BV by modulating and strengthening the immune system. Sure, it CAN be used on its own to help cure BV, but it is best used in combination with other more direct bacterial vaginosis remedies like the two mentioned above.

A number of scientific studies have demonstrated that women who take folic acid, or have a high intake of folate in their diet, are far less likely to get bacterial vaginosis. The exact mode of action of folic acid is uncertain, but it can certainly be attributed at least partially to the effect it has on strengthening your immune system.

I advise you to take 800 micrograms in 2 divided doses every day. So that’s 400 micrograms twice a day. The recommended daily allowance for non-pregnant women is 400 micrograms per day, but I have found that taking a higher dose helps in the short term for boosting the immune system to help cure BV. And don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe to take 800 micrograms per day. The extra-cautious, safe upper limit is 1,000 micrograms per day.

Women who take these 3 bacterial vaginosis remedies – hydrogen peroxide, acidophilus and folic acid in combination have been found to permanently cure their BV far more often than when they use any one or two of the treatments alone.

The Skin Care Clinic Demystifies Laser Hair Removal

Having a play set in your backyard can be a great way to get your child off the couch and out into the fresh air. With childhood obesity on the rise, we need to do what we can as parents to get our children active and enjoying playing and interacting with each other children again. Being able to go out in the yard and have something to do is just one small step in the right direction.

Playgrounds and play sets can be an integral part of your child’s growth and skill set.

Each piece of the play set can assist our children in different ways. And overall it can make our children healthier and happier.

Monkey bars help with upper body strength, hand eye coordination and gross motor skills.

Climbing up slides, as children so enjoy doing, get’s their leg muscles working and gives them a great stretch as well.

Swing sets can be a great workout for most of their little bodies. Exercising everything from their arms, to their midsections and their legs. All these benefits from having some fun and swinging the afternoon away.

Of course the play set itself can also play a key part in socialization skills. Inviting friends over to actually go out and play can go a long way to helping your child develop better interpersonal skills.

Plus there’s the creativity factor it brings out in children. Creating games and things to do on the play set also help them. And it can get their brains working more than simply staring at the television all day long.

And of course just getting out and playing helps them get much needed exercise. And when they are really going, their hearts are pumping, their blood is flowing and they are getting the added benefits of a cardio workout.

Simply being outside helps as well. Getting fresh air and exercise will not only give them the added health benefits, but most children will sleep much deeper and better after a day of fun outside. Plus, the fact it’s your own play set helps control the amount of germs your children are subjected to.

As parents it is our job to ensure our children are raised healthy and happy. Having a play set in your backyard can help achieve both. And they’ll never be the wiser about the health benefits they are getting. Give them something fun to do, and watch them play themselves into better shape.

Choosing The Right Skin Care Products

When it comes to skin care products, you may be confused as to the many different products that are on the market that focus on skin care for your skin care type as well as specialty areas of your face. It is never too soon or too late to start taking care of your skin, especially with the latest skin care products that are on the market today.

When looking for skin care for yourself, first look to entire kits of skin care solutions. The kits should consist of cleansing solutions as well as protective creams and serums that will keep the wrinkles at bay. If you are looking for a way to take years off of your appearance, you can find it with the modern skin care solutions being offered today. These skin care products use serums that are composed of properties that are already in your skin and work naturally to restore your skin to youthfulness.

Cleansing is the first step towards skin care. If your skin is not properly cleansed, then you are wasting your time putting creams on your face. Forget about soap as it dries out your skin and also contains chemicals that can cause you harm as they are absorbed into your skin. It is essential that you choose skin care products that contain a good deep cleanser in addition to moisturizers for your face. You need to make sure that your pores are completely cleansed out when you are taking care of your skin so that you can prevent the signs of aging.

Not everyone has the same type of skin. Your skin may be oily or dry.  Or it may be combination skin. You need to look for skin care products that not only address aging, but also will be ideal for your skin type. Skin care works when you address the type of skin that you have with the correct products.

Special serums that are designed for parts of your face that are more sensitive are also an important part of your skin care routine. For example, the skin around your eyes is every thin and more prone to wrinkles than any other part of your face. The best skin care products address this fact and have serums that are especially made for problem areas of your skin.

By taking care of your skin with new skin care products now offered at The Skin Care Clinic that are made for anti aging, you will be amazed at the results. You do not have to put up with the natural signs of aging that appear on your face if you do not want to. You can take care of your skin with skin care products that retard aging and will make your skin look years younger. By using these products regularly, you will be fighting the signs of time that creep up on all of us. Once you get into a regular skin care routine, you will start to notice positive results right away and will look younger and gain more confidence when it comes to your appearance. Fight time with skin care that is made to reduce the signs of aging and make your skin look soft and supple.

BOTOX and Dysport Injections vs. Dermal Fillers

Injectables and fillers are used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles in men and women. Injections are considered to be non-invasive procedures, which continue to grow in popularity in Americans who want to dramatically improve their appearance without undergoing actual surgery. BOTOX injections are currently the number one most popular non-surgical procedure, while hyaluronic acid injections are the second most popular type of non-surgical procedure. While BOTOX and dermal fillers work in different ways, each of these treatments is effective in treating wrinkles and helping patients look years younger.

BOTOX and Dysport Injections

BOTOX and Dysport injections use a solution that paralyzes facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. About two to three days after the BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport has been injected, results become apparent and can last for up to six months. BOTOX Cosmetic has been on the market for years, but Dysport is a newer injectable. Many plastic surgeons and dermatologists report that Dysport offers results that are similar to those offered by BOTOX injections

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, and Radiesse are hyaluronic acid based fillers that restore volume in facial lines and wrinkles. Other fillers include collagen, Sculptra, Artefill, Captique, Elevess, and a range of others. Each type of filler is effective in filling in crow’s feet, marionette lines, laugh lines, brow lines, and other wrinkles. Most dermal fillers last for about three to six months, while others such as Radiesse can last for up to one year. Doctors recommend that patients use a filler that lasts for a shorter period of time before having Radiesse injected to ensure that the patient is satisfied with the results.

BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, and dermal fillers are all safe and effective wrinkle treatments that can dramatically minimize the appearance of facial wrinkles.

4 Simple Steps to Get Rid of Cellulite

If you look at it for what it is, Cellulite is not nice. Lumpy derriere’s and legs can be offputting for most women when looking at themselves in a swimsuit but cellulite isn’t their fault by any means. It is created by abnormal patterns of elastic fibers and collagen under the skin (the dermis layer) that are present in females. It can also be formed by a regular breakdown of cells in the human body that occur with age. An average of 9 in every 10 women suffer from cellulite and most deem it bemusing that nobody happens to know how to get rid of cellulite, but it can be done and is really relatively simple when you know how! Lots of females would kill for a firm and sleek body like the models they see in magazines, the beautiful actresses and the music video vixens they see on the television. In the long and hard mission for the longed-after body, many so-called strategies they try fail to work, i.e. fad diets and fat burning tablets. A few women have found however that temporarily starving their bodies causes them to lose a few kilos, but the cellulite always stays where it is! This can’t be a good way to treat the body.

How To Get Rid of Cellulite – (What the Masses Believe)

[1] – Join a Gym
While trying to get rid of cellulite, a good, long-term method is to carry out toning exercises. Just 30 minutes to quarter of an hour of your day carrying out simple firming exercises such as jogging, swimming, jumping jacks and squats will tone up the body as well as increasing blood flow and circulation. This will be successful long term, but requires a lot of effort and will-power.

[2] – Go On A Diet Plan
It can take an extremely long time to see a noticeable reduction in cellulite while dieting. This popular method might cause you to lose pounds if you stick to a diet plan such as the Atkins diet, Acai berry diet or Cayenne pepper diet, but you will only notice the cellulite melt away if you eliminate sugary, toxin-filled foods. Cellulite feeds on processed & unnatural substances so adhering to a non-toxin diet will shrink your cellulite but again requires an immense amount of self-discipline and will-power.

[3] – Detoxify and Cleanse your Body
As mentioned above, cellulite is made up of unwanted fluid, fat and toxins. In order to get rid of cellulite, you have to initially get rid of the toxins to allow the fat dissolve more easily. Detoxing will entail the following:

  • Eliminating processed foods (foods high in fat & articially sweetened foods) from your diet
  • Eating fruit and vegetables daily – preferably eat fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and lean protein (meat) with vegetables in the evening
  • Eliminating alcohol & caffeine – Spirits, beers, wine and caffeine drinks (such as coffee and Red Bull) cause toxins to build up in the body quite rapidly, which will have the opposite desire of a detox and will in-effect help cellulite to form
  • Drinking 8 glasses of water per day (i.e. 2 litres) – This will cleanse the body of toxins

Our vivid imaginations often have the power to alleviate or exacerbate stressful situations. On the one hand, we can come up with a lot of different solutions for the same problems; yet on the other, we also can create all manner of roadblocks for ourselves almost out of thin air.

The human mind is an incredible tool with the ability to envision all kinds of scenarios, and it is this capacity that can be your best ally or worst enemy as you’re trying to combat stress. After all, stress that’s caused by warranted things such as an emergency or an unexpectedly hard day at the office is troublesome enough, so why would we want to invent stress?

We’re going to discuss a few ways to turn our mind from an enemy into our friend. We’ve discussed the S.T.O.P. method in another article, and this technique builds on that tool. Once we’re in the habit of calling out our bad thoughts and pushing them out of the way, it’s time to put good thoughts and positive visualizations in their place. The mind will fill up emptiness with more thoughts, so why not use these techniques to make sure they’re thoughts that help, not hinder?

Visual Aid #1 – See the Goal

Remember that we’re not taking all these steps just to make our life more complicated or make ourselves feel bad! We each have a goal to reach, and these steps are part of the trip to that goal. So visualize yourself succeeding, and see yourself how you want to be. Imagine how good it will be to wake up not worrying about the rest of the day, and how great it will feel to go to bed knowing you have a handle on your problems.

As we know, stress has a major effect on our bodies. Too much of it can make us tense up, leading to bad posture and muscle aches or cramps. Imagine a good night’s sleep without those aches and pains, or without the headache that comes from worrying about a problem for hours and hours. See the goal, and keep it in mind.

Visual Aid #2 – See the Steps

There’s a trick that some runners use to keep themselves on track during a long course. Sometimes the goal does feel very far away, and it can be hard to see yourself getting from ‘here’ to ‘there’ at any one moment. Runners deal with this by picking out a landmark or feature a few minutes ahead of them, and choosing to reach it for the time being. The long journey then becomes a series of smaller stints that the runner can manage, and before long the finish line is in sight.

This is a powerful technique that works for visualizing efforts too. While you’re considering the goal, it might occur to you that all those nice results are a bit far away. Don’t panic, and instead start visualizing the steps toward that goal. Consider the important ones you’ve already made, and look to the next one. This will give you insights about how easy the course really is, and give you the courage to make each small step that will build up to those strong habits, a day or a week at a time.

Visual Aid #3 – See Your Friends and Family

A big part of why we don’t want to be stressed out is the effect it has on our friends and family. We miss out on fun activities because of stress headaches, we snap at someone when maybe we shouldn’t, or we are so distracted and irritated that we simply forget how much fun our loved ones can be.

As your next visual technique, spend a little time each day thinking about how your newfound outlook will help your family. Imagine being able to say ‘yes’ to more enjoyement because stress headaches are a thing of the past. Visualize how you want your evenings with your loved ones to be, instead of how they often end up because of stress. Remember that a small, conscious bit of time devoted to each step, each day will build up your habit into a rock-solid lifestyle.

Visual Aid #4 – See It Can Be Done

Some of us aren’t naturally visual people, or so we say. We’ve tried and tried to visualize things, but it just doesn’t work. However, don’t you find it easy to visualize how easily things can go wrong? Or even if it is true that you can’t really see, is it genuinely because it’s something you can’t do, or is it just something you can’t do–yet?

Any habit is hard to get into at first. Remember that it can take about sixty days for a habit to cement in your life sometimes. Try it, even if it seems to come hard. If you can’t visualize it in your mind, draw something on a fresh page of your stress log, even if it’s just a small smiley face with a note about something you found positive today. These little steps will add up, and will become much more natural as the days and weeks go on.

A Last Note

Sometimes, our visual mind doesn’t work on its own, but responds well to other people

Summer Cellulite

cellulite Summer Cellulite

Summer is right around the corner and for most women that means it’s time to break out the beach-wear. Unfortunately, it also means that for most women it’s time to start getting creative when it comes to dealing with their cellulite.

Being obese does not make you more likely have cellulite and being slender doesn’t make you less likely to have it, because it’s not normal body fat. Cellulite is the superficial layer of fat that sits just under the surface of the skin. The Connective tissue that holds the fat has usually been weakened and that results in dimpling. Cellulite is not only a problem for about 95% of women but also effects men. The reason cellulite tends to be less visible on the male body is because the connective tissue that holds the fat is much more resilient and doesn’t easily sag. The constant truth for both sexes is that because the fat is superficial, it can be almost impossible to treat with diet and exercise alone.

There are herbal creams and ointments on the market today that promise to make your cellulite disappear, and to make you cottage-cheese-free. However, there has been no evidence that shows any kind of efficacy. Creams and ointments are unable to penetrate deep enough into the skin to get to the fat, which essentially renders them useless.

Also marketed to fight cellulite is subcision, which attempts to target and treat cellulite by snipping the connective tissue that holds it in place. Again there is little evidence of efficacy and there are concerns that it might worsen the condition because it could result in saggy skin and thus more cellulite.

Only one technique has ever shown real signs of being effective, VelaShape, which combines both Endermologie to smooth dimples as well as radiofrequency technology to help break up the fat and connective tissue beneath the surface of the skin. The VelaShape System has been around for quite a few years and is the only FDA-approved procedure on market that has been proven to shrink thigh circumference, as well as minimize the overall appearance of cellulite dimpling. As with most treatments, it does require you to have multiple sessions (10 on average), but most patients start to see real results within the first 4-5 visits.

The Skin Care Clinic in Newport Beach has been administering this procedure for years and our highly qualified staff have had hours upon hours of real-world experience. It is our goal to help you achieve the body you want by summer and we will design a comprehensive personalized plan to help you actualize your goals. Call us today to schedule a free consultation and say farewell to cellulite before summer’s in full-swing.

Botox® Lifts Your Brows, and Your Spirits Too!

Botox 27601t1 Botox® Lifts Your Brows, and Your Spirits Too!

A recently conducted study has cast Botox into the category of “possible anti-depressant”.

Botox, normally used to relax fine lines and to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, has been found to make people happier. The theory is that because the active neuroxin in the botox disables the use of certain muscles, it can actually reduce the amount of emotional expression. The loss of the ability to frown for instance, has been found to limit the human brain’s ability to feel deep, helpless sadness.

While this is still in the “theory” phase of research, there has been documented evidence that shows it could be more of a reality than one might think.
The broader point is that Botox® could offer a cheaper alternative to more traditional anti-depressants which can cost up to $2,000 a year per medication. While Botox only administered a handful of times per year could cut that cost in the half and make you look younger.

Brief But Interesting History Of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is not a new process but it has taken a long time for the process to iron out the problems and make it efficient and safe to use. Through 40 years of research, it has been possible to make a laser that is safe to remove hair follicles. Last year alone, 2,000,000 Americans had laser hair removal done on their bodies with minimal side effects. As we move into the future, the technology of laser hair removal will continue to change and improve.

Laser hair removal history in reverse chronological order:

•   The Wave 5 Laser was released in 1997 and was cleared by the FDA for use to target melanin in the hair. The Wave 5 Laser was easy to use, had epidermal cooling in it, and greatly reduced the risk of any side effects, making it safe and effective to use. Wave 5 Lasers are the ones currently in use around the world by millions of people who get laser hair removal done on their bodies each year.

•    The Wave 4 Lasers were released in the mid-1990s and this is where laser hair removal comes into its modern form. The 1995 form of the laser was the first to be cleared by the FDA for use. These lasers would use a carbon-based lotion as a chromophore. The laser would heat the carbon and release a shock wave to the follicle to destroy it. Unfortunately, that wave could also damage nearby cells in the skin.

•    In the 1980s, the Wave 3 Lasers were invented. While these lasers were better at targeting hair, they were still too tedious to use for laser hair removal and were ineffective, which resulted in them being removed from the market.

•    In the 1970s, the Wave 2 Lasers came into being. These lasers allowed for the targeting of individual follicles with a targeted laser sending a beam of energy through a fiber-optic probe. Sadly, this was sent to market without any testing done and it was marketed as painless even though it was not. The FDA stepped in and removed it from market because it was difficult to use and ineffective for what it claimed.

•    In the 1960s, the first lasers were called Wave 1 Lasers and they emitted a continuous wave of light rather than pulses. As a result, they were no good for removing hair because the beam could not be controlled. As a result, there was too much risk to the skin being damaged. The Q-switch allowed for a shuttering of the light but still, it was not practical for laser hair removal.

Everyone thinks of lasers are new and futuristic, and when people think of laser hair removal, they think the same thing. The truth is that laser hair removal processes, and lasers for the skin in general, has been around for many, many years. Longer than most of the people getting laser hair removal done have been alive.
